The general procedures for fitting grips are:
- First, make sure the handgun is unloaded and safe to work on.
- Put the grips on with your hands, pressing them flush to the frame. NEVER USE THE GRIP SCREW TO FORCE THE GRIPS ONTO THE GRIP FRAME PIN. If you cannot press the grips over the grip frame pin, open the edge of the pinhole with a knife then push the grips on by hand until they are flush with the frame.
- Tighten the grip screw until it is snug. By over-tightening, the grip screw or by trying to force the grips together by the screw will cause the escutcheon to break through the grip.
- After the grip is snug to the frame operate the unloaded firearm making sure there is no interference in the operation of the handgun. If the grip does not fit flush against the frame because of hanging up on the frame pin bevel the hole in the grip to allow the pin to start and press the grips together, then snug up the grip screw.
These guns have 3 distinctive frames identified by First Generation, Second Generation or Third Generation. All of these grips are made slightly over sized and must be fitted to your frame.
These are unusual problems that do pop up from time to time. A small file and some sandpaper will be all the extra tools you will need.
In some incidences the 6 point inside the grip panels may need to be trimmed to get the panels to fit properly. This can easily be done with a file. Simply remove the material from the corner or side in the direction you want to move the grip. Take one or two passes with the file and check the panel to the frame and the alignment of the screw hole. It should only take a pass or two to get the panels to line up. Check the other side before removing any material; it may not need any material removed. Then snug up the grip screw and check the function of the firearm prior to loading and firing.
Walther PPK/S and PP
These grips will not work with Double Action Only (DAO) Pistols. With the old grip off, hook the top of the grip panel under the top of the handle and with little pressure press the lower portion into place. Do not force the grip into place. If there is any interference remove that material with a fine file and taper the back edge to allow the grip to swing into place. Place the screw into the frame handle and snug the grip screw against the grip.
